British Science Week is an annual celebration of science. It aims to promote and spark interest in science. The theme for this year is “Curiosity - What’s your Question?”. Our British Science Week assembly explored questioning and how our natural curiosity has led to so many scientific discoveries.
Students have been enjoying workshops throughout the week.
Year 7 took part in a Space Activity, looking at how we get to space and if there could be life elsewhere. They built and launched amazing model rockets and explored what life needs to exist. There are many current missions driven by our curiosity about space.
Year 8 are studying forces in lessons and extended their work with an activity based on the UP movie. They built model houses and found out how many helium-filled balloons it would take to lift them.
Testing their engineering skills and coding ability, Year 9 took on a Lighthouse Challenge. They designed and built some novel lighthouses using K’Nex and illuminated them using a Micro.
KS4 students have some wildflower seed balls to take home. They are curious to see what will grow in the summer after sowing in the next few weeks.

“The physical space and openness of the site is reflected in the attitude of the school – it’s not pushy but gently encouraging and appears to nurture confidence, independence and leadership in a way that can’t be faked, certainly not to the astute young people of today”
